Hello!
I’m a translator from Korea. I have some questions about word count.
First, is there a way to see the word count in real-time? I calculate my workload based on how much I’ve worked each day, but the report only shows up the next day, which is really inconvenient.
Also, does the word count in the report only include unique words without repetition?
I am Antonis from the Transifex Customer Success team.
Your personal report updates each day at 04:30 UTC. Can you share how this affects your workflow and how the stats updating in real-time would help so I can better understand the issue you’re facing? I can share your feedback with our product team for consideration.
The main data points are Translated, Reviewed, and Edited words:
Any time you translate a string from an untranslated state, it counts as Translated word count.
Any time you review a Translated string or Proofread a translated one, it counts as Reviewed word count.
Any time you edit an already translated string, it counts as Edited word count.
Each time, the full word count of the string is added.
Finally, the two leverages indicate how much you relied on previous work, such as TM suggestions, to complete your translations.
You can view more detailed scenarios about how work affects the reports here.
For repetitions specifically, if you translate a string with the same content twice, both instances will count towards your translated word count.
Thanks for your response!
Let me first explain why real-time word count is useful to me.
Suppose a vendor assigns me 10,000 words, and I decide to work on 2,000 words per day.
With tools like Trados or MemoQ, the word count is displayed, so when I hit 2,000 words,
I know I’ve completed my daily target.
However, in Transifex, the word count updates the next day,
so I can’t see how much I’ve worked on for the day.
I have to rely solely on my intuition to determine if I’m working more or less.
Regarding repetitions, for instance, let’s say strings 1 and 10 both contain ‘I’m your father.’
When I translate string 1, string 10 gets automatically translated through the TM.
So, I noticed that string 1 is marked as “Translated by Bambi,” while string 10 is marked as “Translated by TM.”
Do you mean that both instances count towards the word count(3+3=6 words)?
Or does only the text marked as ‘Translated by Bambi’ count towards the word count(3 words)?
Thanks for your help and I hope you’re having a great night!
Thank you for your feedback. I will share this with our product team for consideration.
As for the repetitions, this only refers to manual work where the string is marked “Translated by Bambi” as you said. For example:
If you translate “Hello there” once, the Translated word count will be 2.
If the project has TM auto fill-up enabled, and there’s another instance of “Hello there” it will be automatically populated by the TM and won’t count towards your Translated word count.
If the project doesn’t have TM auto fill-up enabled and you manually translated “Hello there” for a second time, your Translated word count will be 4.
For the word count to count towards you, it has to be manual work. For example, you must provide the text and click the “Save Translation” button.
