📊 Get Clearer Insights with First-Time Actions in Activity Reports

Hello Transifex Community,

We are reaching out today to let you know we’ve enhanced the Activity Report to give you deeper visibility into contributor effort with First-Time Actions—now available for translations, edits, and reviews.

What did we add?

The Activity Report now breaks down user actions into:

  • First-time Edited/Reviewed words
  • Total Edited/Reviewed

This helps you accurately measure contributor impact by filtering out repeated interactions on the same string—like multiple edits or re-reviews—so you can focus on what truly matters.

What is the value

Repeated edits or reviews on the same string can ramp up contribution metrics (wordcounts) and make it harder to track real effort. First-time actions provide a clearer picture of:

  1. Original contributions to a string’s translation and edit
  2. True productivity per user. Clarify what’s truly new work vs. repeated changes

How It Works

Here’s how First-Time Actions are tracked:

Translations

  • First-time translation: Logged when a user translates a string for the first time.
  • Total translations: Includes all translations (even repeats).

:light_bulb: If a translation is deleted and retranslated, it counts as a new first-time translation.

Edits

  • First-time edit: Logged to the first user who edits a string.
  • Total edits: Includes all subsequent changes to the string while keeping it’s status.

:light_bulb: Only the initial editor gets credit for the first-time edit.
:light_bulb: We count first-time edits every time there’s an edit following a change of status.

Reviews

  • First-time review: Logged when a user reviews a string that hasn’t been reviewed yet.
  • Total reviews: Counts all reviews, including re-reviews.

:light_bulb: If a string is unreviewed and re-reviewed, it counts as a new first-time review.

Example :

Let us suppose we have one string and we perform the following actions on it:

Action Counted as
Translate 1st time Translation
Translated (Edit) 1st time Edit
Translated (Edit) - Added to Total Count
Translation Deleted -----
Translate 1st time Translation
Review 1st time Review
Translated (Edit) 1st time Edit
Unreview -----
Translated (Edit) 1st time Edit because previous status changed
Review 1st time Review
Unreview -----
Review - Added to Total Count
  • Translations : 2 First-time (2 in Total)
  • Edits : 3 First-time (4 in Total)
  • Reviews : 2 First-time (3 in Total)

So eventually the count is based on the number of words in the source string for all these metrics. For example, if you have the source string “Hello world” and it was translated to “Hello,” the new word count would be 2, not 1. Total count and First time counts follow the same logic.

Where can you see the data

You’ll see First-Time Actions in the Activity Report (Available to Growth Plan and Up) :

Filter by project, user, or time range. There is also a toggle button to see First-Time Edited/Reviewed on dashboard instead of Total.
