We’re a little further in the year. Is there any news on the double quote issue?
We noticed that when we change the source on Github from QQ to “ that after the next sync to Transifex this is correctly updated in the sourche langueage (en-EN), but it renders all translations of the strings with “ (double quotes) replaced to be lost. So we have to re-translate those strings in all languages.
Alternatively: is there a mass-replace function in translated files in Transifex?
Alternatively (2): Will switching on the AI-Fillup function in our project settings bring back the lost translations?
This is Carlos from Transifex support, please allow me to chime in while Antonis is OOO.
If you need to modify the translation of a word or a phrase en masse, you can use the find and replace functionality in the Editor, which will work directly on translations not in the translation file.
You can search for the entire word or parts of the words (or a character, for the non-space languages).
First, select the strings containing the word or phrase you want to update. You can easily use the filter “translation_text” to find these strings in Transifex Web Editor. Or you can select all strings in this project if it’s a global change.
Then, in the "Find and replace" section of the right panel, type in the word/part of the word you want to replace and, below that, the new word you want to use instead.
Finally, hit Find and Replace.
If searching for a part of the word, click Allow partial matching before clicking Find and Replace.
About the AI-Fillup, this option will not bring the translations back, if you enable this option new translations will be generated using Transifex AI.
If you don’t have too many strings you can go one by one and select the translation from the Suggestions tab on the Transifex Editor this will override the latest translation and will display the one that you selected.

Thanks a lot for the response. So, if we first change the translations (by mass search-and-replace) and then update the resourses, we will probably not loose the translations of all strings containing _QQ_ ?
If it works like that we are saved
So if you find and replace that characters and sync everything back to your github so that all target languages are in sync and then start again pushing new content, you should not have any issue.

Thanks for the info. We don’t have backwards sync in place but immediately after the change on Transifex we will upload the source files back to Github. Or alternatively do a mass search and replace at the same time on both Transifex and Github
I just noticed one issue: it seems not possible to search for the backslash \. As we want to repace escaped double quotes \" with single quotes ' this would be necessary.

I could not find a way to find the escaped double quotes in the source string, only in the translation strings with Find and replace translation strings.
If I got it right from Carlos, we need to update the source strings on transifex and not on github. If we do it on github, we will lose all the translations of the modified source strings.
So how can we search and replace escaped double quotes \” in the source strings?
Or if this is not possible, how can we manually change the source files on transifex (until now we change them on github and they are synced to transifex)?
You will need to use the Transifex Command Line Interface (CLI) to download, modify, and re-upload the files. This ensures both the source and translation files are updated simultaneously.
Download Files: Use the CLI to pull both the source file and all relevant translation files:
Edit Files: Use a text editor (like VS Code or Sublime) to perform a global Find and Replace operation across all files you just downloaded:
Upload Files: Push the modified files back to Transifex:
By applying the exact same change to both the source and the translations, Transifex recognizes the translation as still valid for the updated source, and you won’t lose any data.
