How to become a good Translation

Hello :waving_hand:

I would like to ask you what key features must a translator have to be professional when translating from the ST into the TT?

Please give me examples or practices to improve my skill in translation

Hi @dalia_alawawda

This is Carlos from Transifex support, this is not part of the scope of support but taking a look a professional translator must possess a synthesis of deep linguistic mastery in both the Source Text (ST) and Target Text (TT), coupled with the “transfer competence” to bridge cultural and contextual gaps effectively. Beyond fluency, they must demonstrate domain expertise to handle specialized terminology, utilize CAT tools for technical consistency, and adhere to a strict ethical code regarding confidentiality and deadlines. Ultimately, their goal is to produce a TT that achieves functional equivalence, ensuring the message resonates with the target audience as naturally as the original did within its own culture.

About the examples this is what we found

  1. Comparative Analysis: Translate a text yourself and then compare it to a professional version of the same document to analyze differences in sentence structure, tone, and word choice.
  2. Parallel Text Research: Read native documents in your target language that cover the same specialized topic as your source text to adopt the correct industry terminology and “voice.”
  3. Back-Translation: Translate a complex passage into the target language and then translate it back into the source to see if the original meaning remains intact or has been distorted.

Hope this helps can help you

Best regards
