Hello everyone,
I’m a translation student interested in how emotions differ across cultures. In Arabic, we have many emotion words that carry complex cultural and psychological meanings, such as:
-
غصّة (a mix of sadness, regret, pain, and an inability to speak)
-
حسرة (deep sorrow over something lost or missed)
-
هيبة (a respectful form of awe mixed with fear)
-
مهابة (dignified presence that inspires respect)
-
قهر (anger caused by injustice or helplessness)
These words do not have direct equivalents in English, and literal translations often lose the emotional depth.
